Continuously learning new technology in a social media world is my domain. I am a visual journalist, photographer, writer, strategic communications professional, and educator.
Traditional, digital media – New technology blends well with my traditional background as a New York Times Company staff photographer. My photos and videos have been featured by CNN, CNN iReport, HLN, The New York Times Company and the California Academy of Sciences.
Social media honors, online teaching – I am a CNN iReport Awards Spirit Honoree as a Citizen Journalist, 2013. My first online class was at Udemy.com, Video Promo essentials – shoot, edit and share video online, with more than 650 students from around the world, 2013-2015. In September 2013, I was awarded the Golden Apple Award from Udemy.
Teacher of Foreign Languages – I turned my living room into a global classroom in 2020 before finding a more fitting location at home for online teaching. I was a volunteer Teacher of Foreign Languages, TEFL, with My Culture Connect, mycultureconnect.org, a nonprofit serving rural junior and senior high students, native Chinese speakers, online via Skype, Changhua, Taiwan. This includes tutoring students at the elite Changhua Art High School, with top ranked student musicians in Taiwan. I also received a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certification from International TEFL Academy, Chicago.
Assistant Professor, St. Cloud State University – I most recently served as Assistant Professor, Multimedia and Strategic Communications, at St. Cloud State University, SCSU, St. Cloud, Minnesota, 2015-2019. Teaching appoints include topics of public relations, strategic communications, multimedia, photojournalism, in addition to serving as academic advisor, advisor to student organizations, chair to department scholarship committee, and more. From 2015-2016, I served as adjunct professor teaching introduction to multimedia.

Strategic Communications Professional – During the Great Recession, the majority of work was related to a project funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, (ARRA) involving health care, green jobs, technology and career training programs. Responsibilities included public and media relations; writing career and business columns and press releases; social media; graphic design; videography editing and production; digital photography; HTML and CSS web updating; and purchasing media for publicity. This was all part of my job as Community Relations/Communication Manager, Workforce Connection, currently known as CareerSource, Ocala, Florida.
I’m currently a member of Public Relations Society, PRSA, and served as the student advisor to students at St. Cloud State University, PRSSA.
Media interviews – I have been interviewed by regional, national and international journalists on topics ranging from searching for work, the election of Pope Francis and more.
Photo agency in Europe – I owned and operated a Dutch registered photo agency in the Netherlands, working with a Dutch language newspaper and had a NATO contract for portrait photography in Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base, Germany.

- Master of Fine Arts English in Creative Nonfiction Writing, with Publishing Concentration, Augsburg University, Minneapolis, Minn.
- Master of Arts in photography, Ohio University, Athens, Ohio
