Comedian Ellen DeGeneres was born on January 26, 1958 in Metairie, Louisiana. Ellen first came out as a lesbian in 1997 and is now married to Portia de Rossi. Ellen is a huge advocate for the LGBT community and of their rights.

Ellen first started doing stand up comedy at the age of 23 in coffee shops and her first big break was on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno starring Johnny Carson where she earned the distinction of being the only female comedian to be invited by Johnny Carson to sit on the famed couch on her first visit.

After she appeared on “The Tonight Show,” she made regular appearances on talk shows such as “The Late Show,” “The Tonight Show,” “Oprah,” “Larry King Live,” “Good Morning America” and ABC’s “Prime Time Live.”

In 2003 Ellen launched her own talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Not only has her talk show been a huge success, she also has hosted multiple award shows such as the Emmy awards and Academy awards, her voice was in “Finding Nemo,” she has been a judge on “American Idol” and also is the author of multiple books.
